• Your account

  Your email address. We use it to sign you in with a one-time code, and to send you emails about events you join, organise or review. Your choices lists which of these you can switch off.

• Your profile

  Display name, photo, suburb and state, and preferred language. Your name, photo, suburb and state are visible to other members.

• Looking for work

  Your phone number or LINE ID, an optional email for updates, and your CV if you add one. When you apply for a job, these go to the employer who posted it.

• Running a business page

  When you claim or verify a business, the proof you upload (such as a licence, lease, bill or shopfront photo) and an optional phone number. Only in an ownership dispute do we ask who you are.

• Listing professionals

  Professionals are listed with what they tell us, or for some professions from public sources such as their workplace's website. We confirm each registration by looking it up on the public register, again every year, and link to it, but copy nothing from it. Health practitioners registered with AHPRA are listed only once they register or claim the listing themselves. We show only their workplaces' contact details, never a personal phone number or address, and professionals have no reviews or ratings. When a listing names a business on ThaisInTown as a workplace, that business's team is told and can confirm or decline it.

• Claiming or registering as a professional

  You send photo identification with the name on your register entry, and to register yourself, your register number. Only our admins see the identification, and we delete it as soon as we decide. To confirm a claim, we may contact your workplace through its public contact details.

• Suggesting a place, a professional or an event

  What you send, and any review you write with it, goes to our admins to check before anything is published. When we publish an event you suggested, it names you and shows your photo as the member who suggested it.

• Community verification

  When someone vouches for you in person, both phones check they are close to each other. We keep only the result and a rounded distance, never your location.

• Joining an event

  When you RSVP, we record your place or Waitlist spot, a personal check-in code, and the phone number and message you give. The organiser asks for a phone number only if they choose to. The organiser sees your name, photo, phone number and message. They never see your email address. The organiser is the member who posted the event, the professional whose listing it is posted for, or everyone on the team of the business it is posted for. Our admins can see it for any event.

• Contact permission

  A box on the RSVP form lets the organiser contact you about their next events. If you tick it, we record when, and the exact sentence you saw. It lets that organiser keep seeing the phone number and message you gave, after the session is over, until you take it back.

• Email boxes on the RSVP form

  Three more boxes ask to send you a review invitation, a round-up of events and suggestions of similar events. They are off until you tick them. For each box you tick, we record that you agreed, when, and the sentence you saw.

• Checking in

  We record each check-in with its time, how it was done and who did it. You can check yourself in by scanning the code printed at the door, which belongs to the session and not to you. The organiser can also check you in, by scanning your personal code or from their list, and can undo it; the undo is recorded too. The organiser sees who is checked in.

• Event reviews

  If you were checked in to a session that has ended, you can review the event. Your review is public, with your name, photo, star rating, comment, the date and the session you attended. The organiser can reply publicly.

• What you publish and report

  Reviews, photos, replies, business pages, job posts and events are public. An event you post as yourself names you as its organiser. Reports you make are never shown to the person you reported.

• Technical information

  Your IP address, to stop abuse such as repeated sign-in attempts. Sign-in cookies that keep you logged in. Anonymous page-view and speed statistics, and counts of how often each event page is viewed and its ticket link clicked, which the organiser sees. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.

When you write a job post, a deal or an event, you can ask an AI to fill in the form from your text or a photo. It is sent to a third-party AI provider under a zero-data-retention agreement. For a deal or an event, we keep what you sent for 30 days, visible only to our admins, then delete it automatically. To keep ThaisInTown safe, content you publish, and reports about it, are checked by an automated system run by a third-party AI provider under a zero-data-retention agreement. A person from our team decides every appeal.

• Closing your account

  You have 30 days to change your mind. After that we erase your name, photo, contact details and CV. What you published stays, shown without your name. If you claimed a professional listing, it is taken down. We also clear the phone number and message on every RSVP you made, take back any Contact permission you gave, and give up your places at sessions that have not started. Events you posted as yourself that have sessions still to come are cancelled, and the people who joined are told.

• Phone number and message on an RSVP

  The organiser sees them until 24 hours after the session ends. After that they are hidden from the organiser and cleared from our records, unless you gave Contact permission, which keeps them until you take it back.

• Event records

  Your RSVPs, check-ins and reviews are kept. After you close your account they show no name, and the record of the email boxes you ticked is deleted.

• Business proof

  Files are deleted 90 days after we decide. The decision itself is kept.

• Professional identification

  Deleted as soon as we decide the claim or registration. The decision itself is kept.

• Vouch codes

  Expire after 5 minutes and are removed.

• Automated check records

  Kept for 90 days, or for as long as the moderation decision they led to.

• Ask for your listing to be taken down from its page, with no account needed. It is hidden at once, then we check with you through your workplace. If you did not make the request, we put the listing back.
• Claim your listing to add a photo, services and a booking link, or to correct your workplaces.
• Your page links to your entry on the public register. If your registration changes, email us and we will check again.

• See and change your profile at any time in your account.
• Choose which event emails you get in your account settings. Each email you can switch off has a link at the bottom that stops it in one click. Sign-in codes, notices about your account or what you published, and emails that change your plans, such as a place confirmed or taken away, or a session changed or cancelled, cannot be switched off.
• Take back a Contact permission from any organiser in your account settings. For a session that is not yet over, that organiser can still see your details until 24 hours after it ends.
• Close your account from your account settings.
• Ask us what we hold about you, or to correct it, by emailing us.
• If you are not happy with how we handled a privacy concern, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
